WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
I’m not a stylist expert by any means, but you may find that by going by a few simple rules is helpful.
RULE #1: Please Be Comfortable.
If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in your images. I promise. I’m all about cute shoes. If they look amazing but kill your feet, bring a comfy pair to slip into when you’re not being photographed.
RULE #2: Learn the art of Matching Without Matching.
Basically, don’t clash. There are hundreds of options that allow you each display your personality, and still coordinate with each other without being matchy-matchy. Jcrew is wonderful at showcasing this.
RULE #3: Make it Special.
There are too many horror stories about people absolutely dreading photos. Make a day of it. Ladies, I have an AMAZING makeup artist I work with. Her services can be worked into your session and make you feel like a model. Who wouldn’t want that? Guys, maybe a try a new hat, funky socks, or that watch you love but don’t get the chance to wear. If you have kids, let the kids pick their own socks, and then build your outfits around what they picked. Do whatever you need to do to help feel good about yourselves and eachother, and get excited. Because I can promise you we’ll have fun!
PROPS! I am a huge fan of props. No, not the cheesy fake pillars and silk plants. I mean things you love. Bubbles, balloons, dress-up clothes, picnics, your hat+bowtie collection, your grandfathers old camers — it’s all inspiration, and it tells a story. Bring it on.

Laura Kelly - This is one the BEST what to expect posts I’ve seen! I’ve been working on one myself, and I am definitely going to incorporate some of what you said about the props — looove!
